Sibley School is an urban Grand Rapids Public School that serves 600 preschool-5th grade students and their families. We partner with Sibley throughout the year, providing a variety of services. Fully 90% of the families served at Sibley live at or below the poverty level and lack the resources to provide the basics for school and home. Sibley projects include:
- August “Yard Sale” (donate gently used items/clothing given to families at a free event)
- August and September School Supply Drive
- Clothing (underwear, socks, winter coats, boots, etc)
- Thanksgiving groceries, purchased, bagged and distributed to Sibley Families
- Christmas “Adopt a Family” and provide Christmas gifts/food
- 5th Grade Graduation Celebration
- Summer Learning Initiative
- Mentoring opportunities available

Kids Food Basket is an agency that is attacking childhood hunger in Grand Rapids by ensuring that children in our community don’t go to bed hungry. Kids Food Basket provides healthy, tasty and cost effective sack suppers for children who are nutritionally at-risk (at/below poverty level). Ways to serve Kids Food Basket include:
- The Trail Mix Project on your own or with a group buy the food, mix and package it, and deliver to KFB
- Packers & Sandwich Makers with a group or on your own. Go to KFB and get packing!
- K-5th graders, decorate lunch bags for the kids who are served at KFB

Reading Works, (formerly Read 4 Rent) is a family literacy and education program that provides mentoring for parents as they tutor their own children in reading. Parents earn money that is applied towards their rent. Reading Works was started and is led by a teacher at Sibley, and is designed to give a hand-up, not a handout.
Ways to serve Reading Works include:
- Donate used children’s books or
- Encourage your k-5th grader to Give Back To God by donating their change to purchase new books
- Be a friend! Connect with a Read 4 Rent family

Schools of Hope Mentoring Program |

Sibley Schools of Hope Mentoring Program You can make a significant and long lasting impact on kids who need every chance they can get. In just 30 minutes a week, transform a child's life through literacy. The Schools of Hope program is held during the school day for students in grades 1-5 who need extra help to achieve proficiency in reading. Here are some details and program requirements:
- Advanced preparation is not needed, all materials are prepared by Schools of Hope Coordinators
- Anyone, high school age and older can participate
- Volunteers spend at least 30 minutes/week tutoring or two volunteers may share a child (if necessary)
- Sessions are held during the school day when school is in session
- Volunteers must clear Michigan State Police and Child Abuse and Neglect background checks and
- Attend one two-hour training session(various times and locations)
- Sibley School will also be offering after school mentoring opportunities, ask for details!

Keystone (through our Xtend Team) partners all year long with Sibley Elementary School located in downtown Grand Rapids. At Sibley, 90% of the families live at or below the poverty level. Join us in sharing Christ’s love with these families by providing much needed support, supplies and encouragement. Here’s how you can jump in:
Supply Drive—Through September 25
Just imagine how difficult it must be to think about buying school supplies when you’re already struggling to provide groceries and other necessities. It’s a struggle Sibley families face on a daily basis. You can help Sibley kids get off to a great start this school year by donating school supplies! Below is a list of needed items. Questions? - Markers (regular and dry erase)
- Pencils (#2 Ticonderoga brand)
- Colored pencils and highlighters
- Pencil sharpeners and erasers
- Post it notes
- Glue sticks
- Scotch tape
- Round ended scissors and 3x5 notecards
- Folders (with pockets and with and without prongs)
- Spiral notebooks & loose leaf paper (wide rule)
- Construction paper (all colors)
