Surrender This Song

Written and performed by Sloan Inns

Sloans inspiration for writing the song, "After leading worship at Keystone for the last 2 years, I have battled to find a song that fit 'us.' After all, Keystone is a very unique church! This led me to reflect and pray about writing songs that we could sing together, that fit us, and that speak directly to our hearts. Surrender This Song came quickly after this.

It's a song for all the people who have ever thought, 'Why are we doing this singing thing? What's with the lifting up of hands and the praying all the time?' I myself have been to church and wondered these thoughts. That's why the verse reflects 'It's not this I understand.'

But the song shifts gears and I believe reaches out to where a lot of us are 'But one thing that I know, despite all this other stuff, is that Christ died for me, He rose so that I could live.' The understanding is not theological, but rather faith based 'I'm not sure what the deal is with this, but I know, deep in my heart, that I am forgiven because Christ lives.'

Because of that ‘knowing' the song tries to help people surrender their inhibitions, their misunderstandings and then their voices to God. They sing, because the song is about God, about all He has done, and because of this, they surrender the song as an offering to Him.

I hope this song touches you as it continues to touch me."
